Drink #2 from our alcoholic tea party experiment. This one sits somewhere between a mimosa and a kir royal: it’s light, bubbly, and has a fruity, mellow goodness that’s perfect for brunch!
For our acai tea mimosa, we used an açaí-flavored, blooming green tea from Primula. For anyone unfamiliar with it, blooming/flowering tea is a bundle of dried tea leaves wrapped around a dried flower. Initially, it looks like a tumbleweed ball about the size of a big marble. Place it in hot water and the flower “blooms” while the tea steeps.
If you’re interested in showing off to your friends, Teavana, Ten Ren Tea, and other specialty tea stores carry blooming teas in a variety of flavors.
Açaí Tea Mimosa
There’s a lot of wiggle room for liqueur flavors in this drink, so feel free to use your favorites. We recommend any fruity tea that will more-or-less match up with a liqueur of your choice (peach tea and peach schnapps, or orange tea and cointreau, etc.). Here’s our version:
Açaí Blackberry Mimosa:
- Açaí Tea
- 1/2 oz. Blackberry brandy
To make it, brew the tea at double strength in a pitcher, then add ice. (The double strength is to compensate for the dilution). Add 1/2 oz. of the fruity liqueur to a champagne glass, fill halfway with tea, then top with champagne. Enjoy!
