Cocoguavanana - a cachaca coconut guava banana cocktail that's perfect for summer!

Cachaça Cocoguavanana

I’m so tired. We just moved. I don’t have words for the tediousness of packing and unpacking 100 boxes. (Notice we’ve been missing lately?) In exchange for my lack of words today, and the absence of my usual humor, I’m going to offer you this drink as comforting solace. And by “you,” I really mean me.

…Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to sit on my porch, facing strategically away from the mess obstructing half of our living room floor, and drink this cachaca coconut guava banana cocktail – the “cocoguavanana.”

This drink is the embodiment of what I think summer should be, instead of what it is, which is doing everything you normally do only now it’s humid and you’re being swarmed by mosquitos. Why can’t summer be like a those drug rehabilitation resort commercials? They always look so nice… Sigh…

Anyway. The drink. Cachaça is a type of rum – sort of – distilled from sugar cane juice. It has a whole history behind its classification, but what’s important to know about it is that, like most liquors, you should invest in a good bottle of it. We used Leblon cachaça, which tastes like caramelized sugar and brandy.

This recipe makes about 9 cups, or about 5 cocktails when served in 10 oz. glasses.

Tools:

  • Blender

Ingredients:

  • 1 and 1/2 cups (12. oz) of cachaça
  • 4 frozen bananas, sliced
  • 1 can (13 – 14 oz.) of coconut milk
  • About 20 oz. of guava nectar or juice
    • This is 2 cans of Goya guava nectar, which you can likely find in the international section of your grocery store
  • 1 cup of ice

Blend all ingredients and serve! One little warning – the drink starts out pink, as pictured, but if you leave it out it’ll slowly lose its color as the banana gets “older.” But then again, I doubt that drinking it quickly enough will be a problem…
